Tristone Acrylic Solid Surfaces
Tristone is an Acrylic Solid Surface.
Acrylic Solid Surface is the ideal material that combines practicality, durability and elegance. It is the perfect material that enables you to create a one-of-a-kind design for limitless self expression and design possibilities.
Tristone is seamless, non-porous, resistant to heat, moisture, and bacteria. Tristone can be thermoformed and joined seamlessly. Additionally, inconspicuous joins, integrated sinks, bowls and coved back splashes make Tristone the perfect choice for both residential and commercial applications.
What is the composition of Acrylic Solid Surfaces?
Acrylic Solid Surfaces are a composite material made of ATH (Alumina-Trihydrate), additives and high performance resins. ATH is inert and non toxic, and it can be used as a fire retardant. Pigments and minerals are used to achieve the stone or granite-like effects within the surface. Due to the highly customisable nature of solid surface as a product, it can be used to create one of a kind designs and colours that might not be achievable with granite or stone.
The purity of ATH in Tristone is 99.8% with a particle size of 10 microns. The 70% mineral composition is a very important factor in the behaviour of solid surface from fabrication to the end user. Tristone’s mineral based composition means that it is warm to the touch. The developed formula also gives Tristone a number of benefits that may not be possible with other worksurface products.

Features of Tristone
It cleans very easily, using ordinary household cleaners, and water. There are three different finishes – matte/satin finish, semi-gloss, and high gloss – each requiring a slightly different approach.
If a Tristone countertop suffers damage, such as scratches or stains (although it is extremely stain and scratch resistant) it can easily be repaired. Scratches and stains can simply be sanded out, and then the surface restored using a polisher.
Tristone are completely impervious to damage from bacteria or other microbes, since it is totally non-porous. For this reason it is often used in hospitals, restaurants, laboratories, and other places where hygiene is of the utmost importance. Tristone is NSF certified. This means that the materials have been tested and analysed, before being given the certification. NSF is the only third-party testing organisation which has such strict standards. It not only analyses materials used, but also makes unannounced plant inspections to ensure adherence to its guidelines. Tristone has NSF51 certification.
Tristone worktops come in a wide variety of colours (view all Tristone colours), and can be cut and customised with limitless design possibilities. It can also be integrated with other materials in the kitchen or bathroom, such as granite, glass, tiles and more, so that you can have a room that reflects your own style.
Compared with other kitchen surfaces, a Tristone worktop has many advantages. Granite is often used for kitchen work surfaces, but has to be professionally sealed every couple of years. If not sealed, the surface is porous and will hold bacteria and germs. It also stains very easily, and has visible seams. Tristone is totally non-porous, and has no visible seams.
Hygienic
Tristone’s non-porous acrylic surface has countless benefits; with its ability to join seamlessly it can fend off mildew, bacteria and other harmful germs and is stain resistant. As Tristone can be joined seamlessly it is the perfect worktop option for clinical environments.
Practical
Tristone is the bespoke choice of the practical minded individual, providing a hygienic surface that is both durable and easy to maintain. Made from acrylic, it comes in a variety of colours at a competitive price whilst still offering the same “wow factor” that other high quality surfaces such as granite and solid stone products offer. It also offers more practicality when it comes to maintenance and is much easier to repair.
Reusable
Don’t want to leave your Tristone creation? Tristone can be removed and reused in almost any installation!
Virtually Seamless
Colour matched Tristone Acrylic adhesive joins Tristone to be seamless. Seamless joins also mean that your Tristone creation can have a uniform look throughout the surface.
Thermoformable
Tristone is thermoformable. This means it can be heated up and moulded or bent to create curves, unique shapes, or sharp angles.
Non Porous
Tristone is non porous and hygienic. This means it does not allow liquids to penetrate the surface. This also prevents the growth of bacteria, mould or fungi.
Easy to Clean
Any stubborn stains can be easily removed, returning the surface to its original appearance by following the recommended cleaning instructions.
Continuous Colour
Select Tristone colours have a homogenous surface which means there’s consistent colour throughout the worksurface. If the sheet is damaged, you don’t need to replace it, you just need to repair it!
Practically Fire Proof
Tristone does not allow fire to spread. It has Class 0 Warrington Fire Certification and has been classed as building material B1 according to DIN 4102 classification. Learn More
Food Safe
Tristone is a food-grade product and meets US and European standards, meaning it can be used in contact with foodstuffs.
Routine care
Frequent cleaning of your benchtop will increase its gloss level over time. Dirt and residue can easily be removed using water, soap, and Chemico paste.
Preventing damage
✓ Always use a cutting board. Cutting directly on top of the solid surface can scratch your benchtop. Use a trivet or hot pads when placing hot objects on benchtops.
✓ Keep direct and indirect heat away from your benchtop. TriStone has innate properties that make it heat-resistant. However, placing heat-generating appliances directly on top of the surface will eventually damage it. Slow cookers should be placed on boards, not the benchtop. Also allow cookware to cool before placing it in the sink.
✗ Avoid contact with strong chemicals such as acetone-based cleaners. If surfaces are exposed to these chemicals, quickly rinse the surface with water.
✗ Do not use abrasive sponges or scouring pads.
Repairs
In the unlikely event of a permanent blemish in your acrylic benchtop, please contact us. Attempting to fix your TriStone benchtop yourself using harsh products may create an inconsistent appearance in the surface.
Severe damages should only be repaired by a TriStone Certified Fabricator or Solid Surface Repair Agent.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the best way to look after Tristone work surfaces in everyday use?
Simply clean the work surface with soap and water. Cleaning agents containing ammonia, for example glass window cleaning products provide a streak free surface. Dishwashing liquids are not ideal, they usually contain hand care substances and over a period of time can cause the formation of a patina, which has to be removed by a qualified fabricator Further detailed care instructions can be viewed in the chapter ‘Care Instructions’ on this website.
Is Tristone solid surfaces hygienic?
Yes, Tristone is a non-porous material with seamless joints where bacteria cannot permeate into the seams or the surface. Compared with other surface materials, such as laminates, tiles, granite, marble and similar products, all of which are porous, Tristone provides a designed worktop where dirt and germs cannot accumulate and provides a surface which is easily maintained. In addition, when an undermount Tristone sink is fitted, the seamless joint provides a complete hygienic surface which is easily cleaned.
What advantages does Tristone have in comparison with laminated boards?
Tristone is a non-porous material, if laminate boards are permeated by moisture the substrate will swell and de-laminate rendering the work surface useless. Laminate boards can also be damaged by indentations or cutting marks and unlike Tristone cannot be repaired.
Does Tristone have any particular advantages in comparison with tiles?
As compared to Tristone the main disadvantage is the porous grout seams with the inevitable growth of mildew / fungus or the black spores that easily form in the grout seams between the tiles, especially in the bathroom, shower areas which cannot be remove permanently by cleaning. Tristone allows the entire surface area to be installed without seams, even if decorative design elements are integrated, and because the product is non-porous mildew/ fungus and black spores cannot grow on the surface.
Can cutting and chopping tasks be performed directly on a Tristone surface?
We would recommend that you do not cut or chop directly on to your Tristone work surface. The surface will show marks especially modern knives made from ceramic which are extremely sharp and hard. Your local fabricator will leave with you a cutting board made from off-cuts, it is very practical, it can be washed easily and it retains all the advantages of the Tristone product.
